The Zangger Committee (ZC) has 29 members and was founded in the early 1970s. The goals of the committee were to establish guidelines for the
export control provisions of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The treaty was adopted by the
United Nations (UN) General Assembly on 12 June 1968, and came into force on 5 March 1970, at which time 47 countries had ratified it. The goal of the treaty is to stop the spread of nuclear weapons to countries that do not have them. Today 155 countries have ratified the treaty.
